The construction is the same as the joystick, but with obvious shape and action differences. When a small light shows red, this indicates MODE1 on the MFD (Multi Function Display) screen on the throttle unit. To the right, a rotary switch can be found. well, let’s just say that Flight Simulator 98 was yet to come. I have been an active member of the flight sim community since. I won't say that Saitek doesn't have their issues either. The Saitek X52 Pro flight control system is the Rolls Royce of flight simulation controllers. Not that there were bonafide problems with good people, but you have to factor that in with something as intricate as a computer device. One word of caution: be sure to take Saitek Forums with a grain of salt- just like every other forum, they are mainly used to gripe about something. I have had soooo many controllers over the years, including the forcefeedbacks, and just think the X52 is the best.

One thing I found to be strange in the installation: after installing the Saitek drivers (not SST software), if I went into Device Manager and wanted to Update the drivers, it would remove the Saitek entries (under the Human Interface Devices heading) and replace both the HID and USB entries with a "HID-Compliant Game Controller" entry. BUT- I found the newer X52 to be alot cheaper than my original, so I have ordered a new X52 Pro through Dell ($104.99!!!!) the other day and will return this X52 back to BestBuy when I get it. Unfortunately, something happened a few months ago, and after I "got over" the fact that it just COULDN'T be the hardware and spent $60 with Microsoft to troubleshoot it, I bought a second X52 at Best Buy and found the controller to be bad. I have been using a X52 since 2005 and have absolutely loved it.
