A long vertical nice art piece with color with plant next to it would make it look more fresh Corner cabinet by fireplace - makes it look cluttered. That shelve unit makes it look clutter (move it to an office or extra room). A big palm or plant in the corner (French doors that seem to go out 2 backyard-front of sofa). If you use materials like linen, you get a natural honey feel PLANTS - bring some nature in. CURTAINS can bring color or do a light see thru beige so you still get the light. Few (1-2) pic frames Put color with cushions & ACCESSORIES. I would remove what's on top of that & put some color + white candles. Or beige (a lighter color so u keep the character but make it more modern & light). Then do a feature wall in the living room ACCESSORIES - If u want to keep blue sofa, you can use accessory colors like different tones of greens, tones & a neutral (beige/white) or metalic (gold/silver) to ground it all FIREPLACE - Paint brick in the an off white to give it a bright but subtle antique look.
I would - paint those "beams" in the ceiling a dark rich wood color - paint all walls white so it features the brown in the floors, cabinets, beams.

POSITIONING - Push sofa away from counter & walls.u have too much floor space unused.doesn't make it cozy.
